When I saw this video on Youtube, I was amazed by the shear ingenuity displayed by these individuals and the heart they have for those who live in darkness.
The advertisement above is a the "isang litrong Liwanag" project of Myshelter Foundation which aims to bring the eco-friendly Solar Bottle Bulb to underprivileged communities nationwide.
I was then wondering, Is this an original Filipino invention?
The truth is, it was developed by students from MIT, dubbed as the "Solar bottle", it inspired many people from different parts of the world to set up and help communities. Here in the Philippines the myshelter foundation is one of them.
But how badly do we need such technology since almost everyone has electricity, the mere shack near the railroad have complete entertainment systems from DVD players to a flat screen TV's.
Well, according to statistics from the National Electrification Commission in 2009, 3 million households still remain powerless outside Metro Manila (really??? that much!!). And even in the metro, families still continue to live in darkness. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has reported that a large number of fire- related incidents involve faulty electrical connections which is sooo true.
Kudos to these people who tirelessly aim for improving the quality of life of our fellowmen, let's support them by any means we can, visit their website: http://isanglitrongliwanag.org/about-us/ and help make a difference in peoples lives.
Onward Isang Litrong Liwanag!!
