Bwakaw: One of New York Film Festival's Movies to Watch

We Filipinos love to listen to stories, that's why love to indulge in horror stories at parties and even enjoy the old stories told to us by our grandparents during bedtime and visits. In recent times, most stories are told to us via movies, and seldom do we now encounter a Filipino movie that is both told well and is heartwarming.

Bwakaw is an indie film that talks about a story that strikes a sensitive cord to Filipino hearts. It tackles about life, being elderly, facing realities, and friendship. Eddie Garcia stars in this film that talks about an old gay man (no spoilers) facing the harsh realities of elderly life, and loneliness. He is accompanied by his only BFF, Bwakaw --- a dog (I think askal to?) who never leaves his side. Together they face life's trials and learn lessons that will forever resonate in our souls.

This movie has been cited by Time Magazine as 10 films to watch at the New York Film Festival, which is slated from September 28 - October 14. Schedule to the movie is found here.

The Movie is also the Philippines' bet to the Oscars in the Foreign Films Category.
