Donaire floored the Japanese within 1:50 of Round 9 with a right straight to the jaw retaining his WBO super bantamweight title and gaining the vacant WBC super bantamweight title.
The Fight was more of a chess match than a boxing fight as both fighters began the first 2 rounds finding ways to outsmart each other.
“I know he’s a great fighter and that both of us can end the match with one punch. It boils down to who makes the mistake and he made that mistake,” Donaire said. The mistake was anticipated by the 29-year-old champion, seeing the opening and quick to pounce caught Nishioka by surprise. Although referee Raul Caiz Sr. allowed Nishioka to sa standing 8 count, the Japanese was already wobbly and was sure not to survive another Donaire onslaught.
