Donaire Needs a Convincing Win Against Mathebula

Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire is now in full swing preparation for his upcoming unification match against the IBF Champion Jeffrey Mathebula this coming July 8 (Manila Time). This is an important fight for donaire as he is attempting to get the coveted Undisputed Champion, in his division. A feat never before achieved by any Filipino boxer including Manny Pacquiao.

For him to make a statement to the boxing world that he is serious in this pursuit, he must win convincingly against Mathebula. This means a unanimous decision is not enough. He should either make a TKO or a Knockdown to stamp  himself as a serious contender for the pound for pound top 3.

Mathebula on the other hand is not a pushover, and should never be taken lightly as he has nothing to loose and all to gain for this fight. representing the African continent, Mathebula has an impressive resume (26-14-3) He is not that a power puncher but more of a methodical orthodox. His Nick name the "mongoose" means he is not meant to be underestimated.

Some insights from various boxing websites have different comments regarding the fight,
boxingnews24.com looks at the Donaire strategy as, already predictable:
Donaire is absolutely terrible against fighters that don’t come at him so that he can time them and nail them with his right hook.
If you’ve listed to Donaire speak about the fight, he feels certain that Mathebula is going to slug with him and give him a chance to knock him out.
I’ve seen some of Mathebula’s fights and that’s not the kind of fighter he is. He’s not stupid for one. He’s not going to fight like an idiot by rushing forward with wild haymaker shots to make it easy for Donaire. Mathebula is a technician and he’s going to use his intelligence and his long reach to carve Donaire up from the outside. Mathebula knows what Donaire is all about at this point.

In a recent interview with ringtv below, both fighters express their confidence in winning the fight, Mathebula on the other hand ends it with a very concise statement: "Believe me He will not take my belt"

This coming weekend Donaire has the upper hand as the boxing favorite at -360, meaning you have to risk $360 to $100.

This Sunday is going to be more of a chess match rather than a slug fest. Expect an exciting, intelligent fight.

GO NONITO!!
